2026 Can-Am Three-Wheelers: Complete Guide to Spyder, Ryker and Canyon Models

When Motorcycles Reinvent the Road

If you think motorcycling is limited to two wheels and wind in your face, it’s time to rethink your assumptions. Since 2007, Can-Am three-wheelers—also known as trikes—have completely reshaped the power sports landscape. And make no mistake: this isn’t just a gadget; it’s become a global phenomenon. Picture this: two wheels up front for stability, one driven rear wheel, a riding position inspired by motorcycles, and a futuristic design that draws attention everywhere. That’s the winning formula from BRP. Having witnessed the birth of these unique machines that quickly made waves, I can confidently say I understand the enthusiasm they’ve generated within the power sports community.

Can-Am Spyder: The Bold Beginnings

It all began in the 1990s at BRP in Valcourt, Quebec. In 1996, a group of engineers launched a bold project: to create a motorcycle that would never fall over. The concept? A Y-shaped architecture—ultrastable yet playful—appealing to both seasoned riders and those who had never ridden a motorcycle.

That vision became reality in 2007 with the launch of the Can-Am Spyder. Enthusiasts were surprised: a trike that rides like a motorcycle, featuring ABS, traction control, and either manual or semi-automatic transmission. Sales quickly took off, with 2,500 units sold in the first year and more than 12,000 by 2009. Impressive for a completely new type of vehicle!

Who Buys Can-Am Three-Wheelers?

What truly sets the Spyder apart is its ability to attract a new audience.

  • 27% of buyers had never ridden a motorcycle before;
  • 21% of buyers were women.

Can-Am successfully created a vehicle that delivers the thrill of the open road even to those who thought motorcycling wasn’t for them.

A wide range of people are drawn to this type of vehicle:

  • Experienced riders looking for a machine that eliminates the need for balance as they transition away from two wheels;
  • People intimidated by motorcycles;
  • Those who don’t want to take motorcycle training but still want to ride alongside a partner instead of sitting as a passenger;
  • Curious individuals eager to try something new.

In short, interest is widespread, and the brand quickly became a hot topic among enthusiasts.

Evolution of Can-Am Three-Wheelers

Over the years, Can-Am expanded its lineup to meet a wide range of riding styles:

  • Spyder RS / GS: early sports trikes for thrill seekers;
  • Spyder RT (2010): a premium touring trike built for long-distance comfort;
  • Spyder F3 (2015): a muscular cruiser powered by a Rotax 1330 ACE three-cylinder engine;
  • Ryker (2018): an accessible, fun, and customizable model, ideal for younger riders and beginners;
  • Canyon (2025): an adventure-oriented three-wheeler, stable and comfortable, and ready for varied terrain.

Key Innovations

Can-Am didn’t just add an extra wheel—it redefined safety and comfort:

  • Electronic stability system (ABS + traction control)
  • Dynamic power steering that adapts to speed
  • Integrated braking, where a single pedal controls all three brakes

The result: you feel as if you’re riding a motorcycle, but with a level of safety and comfort that’s hard to match.

Testing Can-Am Three-Wheelers: My Verdict

From my perspective, testing these models helped me clearly understand who this category of vehicle is for. I’ll admit—I had a lot of fun riding them, and the new Canyon (XT and Redrock) nearly won me over.

I know… some motorcycle purists will be shocked that I enjoyed the Canyon. But honestly, why should it matter if I like both traditional motorcycles and three-wheel vehicles?

In my experience, life is about opportunities and adventures, each offering a different way to enjoy the ride.

After testing all three lineups in summer 2025, here’s my conclusion:

Build quality is exceptional. Comfort is undeniable, and after testing it on all types of terrain—including Montreal’s (damaged) streets—I can confirm that this vehicle delivers outstanding ride quality and comfort.

Riding enjoyment is absolutely there. My daughter even rode with me as a passenger, and although she was skeptical at first, she quickly became enthusiastic after just a few minutes on the road. These machines are built for two-up riding, and the suspension adapts perfectly to carrying a passenger.

  • Ryker: instant fun, agile, ideal for beginners and short rides;
  • Spyder: comfort and touring, perfect for long distances and tech lovers;
  • Canyon: adventure and versatility, stable and ready for less-travelled roads.
