The MoFFAT and Its Black Beast: Legendary Motorcycle Adventure

MoFFAT et sa Bête Noire

There are motorcycle events that are mysterious! Like whispers from distant lands. A few initiates can tell you about them. They will speak to you with love, passion, and solidarity. This is the case with the MoFFAT and its Black Beast.

This year, the MoFFAT, or Moto Film Fest Abitibi-Témiscamingue, held its fifth edition. I took on the challenge for the first time. I want to share with you the exciting adventure I experienced there.

The whispers of the legend began for me when I saw the short film “No Highway.” I discovered a film from motorcycle culture that spoke to me deep in my gut. My “lone rider” side and my passion for adventure, riding my motorcycle for miles on a personal quest like every motorcyclist, were stirred. I did some online research and found the Facebook page for the film produced by Oneland. This is how I first contacted Marc Provencher, the film’s author.

Over time, I met him at motorcycle events. I love following his projects. Why am I telling you about Marc and his film? First, he’s an exceptional man. I could write an entire article just about the endearing and passionate person he is. But most importantly, he’s the man behind the legend of the MoFFAT and its Black Beast. I can hear you; you want to know what it is, right?

Demystifying the MoFFAT and Its Black Beast

The MoFFAT is none other than the Moto Film Fest Abitibi-Témiscamingue. It’s a unifying event over a weekend in early July for the motorcycle community of Quebec and Abitibi-Témiscamingue. It takes place on the shores of Lake Osisko, in Rouyn-Noranda. During the event, participants can watch short and feature-length films, subtitled in French, from around the world. All the films are related to the motorcycle world and culture globally. On the site, there are also artisans and exhibitors presenting their latest creations in the motorcycle field.

And the Black Beast in all this?

The Black Beast is an event within the event. It’s the journey of the daring from all over Quebec to get to the MoFFAT. It’s a “road trip” of several hundred kilometres. All the brave participants gather at one of the multiple starting points and then converge towards Rouyn-Noranda.

But what makes it all legendary?

The MoFFAT has become legendary for several reasons. First, it brings together motorcycle enthusiasts from various backgrounds, creating a close-knit and vibrant community. The films shown at the festival capture a spirit of freedom, adventure, and brotherhood that characterizes motorcycle culture. They transport us to distant lands, winding roads, and breathtaking landscapes. I enjoyed every screening. I’d like to introduce you to Louis St-Germain, who received the audience award. Louis is a talented young Quebecer who presented a short fiction film titled “Riders of the Skull Trail.”

Next, the MoFFAT celebrates creativity and craftsmanship related to motorcycles. Artists and manufacturers present their unique works; customized motorcycles. It’s a place to admire exceptional machines and chat with the creative minds behind them. People passionate about motorcycles, from all genres and backgrounds, are united by their love of motorcycles.

Finally, the “Black Beast” ride is a real challenge for intrepid motorcyclists. It embodies the spirit of adventure and self-surpassing. That’s exactly what I experienced sitting on my Suzuki DR650, covering 1,800 kilometres in three days, riding through the majestic landscapes of Abitibi-Témiscamingue, with its forests, 22,000 lakes, and mountains. Crossing the mythical Parc de La Vérendrye, feared by many, simply charmed me. Our arrival together on the site was the kickoff. It was also an emotional moment for many of us. Just like achieving our common quest, reflecting motorcycle culture and its beautiful community. It creates unforgettable memories and strengthens the bond among the participants.

Conclusion

In short, the MoFFAT is a legendary event because it celebrates passion, creativity, and adventure while bringing together a community united by the love of motorcycles.

I want to salute Marc Provencher’s passionate commitment as the founding president of MoFFAT. The love he invests in it and the special time he gives to each visitor are felt throughout the event. In essence, it’s you, Marc, the mythical soul that shines over the MoFFAT and its Black Beast!
